52 Pickup no. 2 - 28,29,30

52 Pickup no. 2 - 28,29,30

The middle card makes me smile.  There is something about this fisherman with his mouth wide open that  is amusing.  Or is it his rain gear.  There is just something about him that I really like.  I know I like the movement that he is making.  Is he yelling orders or is he afraid of something?  One can come up with a milieu of narratives to go along with what you are viewing.

52 Pickup no. 2 - 25,26,27

52 Pickup no. 2 - 25,26,27

Something happened in my neighborhood that does not have an explanation because I do not know the neighbor.  Several months ago my backyard neighbor who flies an American flag 24/7 also put up a tRump flag.  I thought that sucked as I could not look out the bedroom window without seeing it.  On Sunday I went for a walk in my neighborhood and had to pass that house.  The American flag and the tRump flag were gone.  I could not even see the flag pole.

So yesterday on my return from the grocery store I drove by the house and sure enough no flags but the pole was there.  It must be one of those telescoping poles but all one could see was an eagle and the pole only a few feet up in the air.  I am so curious as to why the change to no flag flying.  I am pleased but still wondering.  Another neighbor on the same cul de sac has a Black Lives Matters sign.  Maybe I can find out from them what transpired.  Was there an epiphany?  Did someone steal the flags?  I know that he had the right to fly the flags but I just did not want to look at the one flag.  I probably won’t ever know what transpired.  Just call me Curious John. :-)

52 Pickup no. 2 - 22,23,24

52 Pickup no. 2 - 22,23,24

I do love subtle humor.  Number 24 cracks me up.  One might not expect someone elderly to be playing the sax.  Why not I say?!  Go for it granny.

52 Pickup no. 2 - 19,20, 21

52 Pickup no. 2 - 19,20, 21

There was a comment question yesterday that I will address and that is do I carefully select the words to go with the images?  The answer is yes and no.   The words always go down first after the background is completed and before the main focal image.  I have a stack of images and I look to see if the images go with the writing.  Sometimes it is dead on and sometimes it is what my brain thought worked well.  It might not be obvious to the viewer.  Sometimes it is a statement.  I never seem to go looking for the match up first.  It just seems to be more intuitive.

52 Pickup No. 2 - 16,17,18

52 Pickup No. 2 - 16,17,18

Each of the cards in 52 Pickup start with black.  Then two or three other colors are dry brushed onto the cards.  Sometimes I would add paint to one card and then stick the two cards together mono-printing onto the second card.  All cards have some lettering or words stamped in white.  On occasion the stamping is not obvious because a layer has been adhered over the stamping.

52 Pickup No. 2 - 13,14,15

52 Pickup No. 2 - 13,14,15

These are all new ones in the set of 52.  The one on the right yesterday was the new one.  Some guesses have been centering their thinking on the focal images.  Not so much.  It is the background that is similar but different.  I like each of these for different reasons.  I like the older gentleman image a lot on the left.  The middle one looks like my day, stormy and I like the movement in the third one.  Happy weekend! :-)

52 Pickup No. 2 - 10,11,12

52 Pickup No. 2 - 10,11,12

Now that we are into a guessing game as to which were the original cards in this series and which are the newer version, one guess by Robert yesterday was incorrect.  So that is in itself a clue.  You will have to look at his comment to gain knowledge on that clue.  Only one of the three above is a new one.  That is clue two for today.  I particularity like the middle card.  Maybe it is because it has a strong pop of red.  I like how the words frame the focal point.  To me this one is a strong composition.

52 Pickup No. 2 - 07,08,09

52 Pickup No. 2 - 07,08,09

If you are very observant as I share this set of 52 you will be able to tell which were some of the original cards in the set and which are the newer ones.  There is a big clue in these three. :-)

52 Pickup No. 2 - 04,05, 06

52 Pickup No. 2 - 04,05, 06

Whatever the reason this series makes me happy.  It is whimsical in nature.  It was very fun to create and although never say never I probably won’t do the same process again since it is my second of three different sets of 52.  A huge thanks goes out to Seth Apter for creating the workshop that I took a few years ago on the process.  Although I have made changes in how I go about doing the cards it is his brainchild.  Thanks Seth!

52 Pickup No. 2 - 01,02,03

52 Pickup No. 2 - 01,02,03

I had started this series a bit ago.  In fact, I had all 52 cards completed and then in a unexplainable moment I gave many of them away.  That left an incomplete set.  I guess at the moment I thought that since I already had set one what was I going to do with set two?  Hence they were sent out for others to enjoy.  Fast forward..... I decided to complete the set again.  This time I am going to make a clamshell box to keep them in.  The clamshell will corral them easy and make a good way to display the cards.  I can take them out of the box anytime I like to spend time looking at them.  I decided to share them in groups of three.  So for the next month plus the cards will be visiting on this blog.

Ten #2 - 10

Ten #2 - 10

For some reason Ten#2-09 has disappeared from the blogspot queue.   I am going to have to find it on one of my other computers. So we jump ahead to Ten#2-10 which is the last one in this series.  I really like the postmarks in this one.  They bring me down from the top to the bottom of the collage in a right left manner.  I am in love with the use of rice paper ledger paper.  The numbers 772 and the calligraphy above the woman’s head were from one piece but to me they do not look like one piece but layered.

Ten #2 - 08

Ten #2 - 08

Sometimes there is something so little that you might miss it.  There is a bit of the orangish color from the center collage in the upper right of the total collage.  I like that compliments the rest of the collage.  Happy accident but fun!

Ten #2 - 07

Two-fer Friday....
Ten #2 - 07

I totally got involved with my new iPad Pro yesterday.  It had been delayed because of the smoke and fires in Oregon and California.  I was tracking it and for three days it sat in the FedEx warehouse but finally made it yesterday morning early.  I spent most of the day checking it out and trying to sync applications and such.  I had some luck and some delays in doing what I wanted.  So I suppose I will do more figuring out today.  Anyway that is why I totally got lost in the day and forgot to post. :-)

Ten #2 - 06

Again having something go outside the middle collage breaks up the composition for me.  In this one the text draws my eye to the right.  What are your observations?

Ten #2 - 05

Ten #2 - 05

I really like works of art that make your eye complete the piece beyond the borders of the work.  In this case the girl’s arm and head extend into the postage stamp beyond the main part of the the tiny collage.  So it is a bit different than forcing the eye to complete an image.  In this case the arm causes movement.  It is not bound to the middle rectangle.

Ten #2 - 04

Ten #2 - 04

I had not noticed before today how the pairing of the ducks on the stamp mirrors the pairing of the two women in the photo.  This is a happy accident which I love.

Ten #2 - 03

Ten #2 - 03

I love how the postmarks add to this series of collages. I did spend some time arranging how the stamps looked according to the postmark. It did make a difference.

Ten #2 - 02

Ten #2 - 02

I have thousands of stamps which have been given to me over the years. They were always housed in coffee cans or boxes or plastic bags. My husband agreed to one day sort them all by country. It took days and days to accomplish this task. Now they are more usefully organized I can find what I need more easily. A huge thanks to Tim.

Ten #2 - 01

Ten #2 - 01

I made another "stamp" book. The first one I liked so much I decided I could not part with it. Today is the day I find out on Zoom who this "stamp" book will go to in the Puget Sound Bookarts Guild. We all get to share our books and an owner is found. I wonder what book I will get?

The Gardener

The Gardener

About two years ago or maybe even three years ago I went to Mexico with art friends. We rented a villa that was really amazing and enjoyed ourselves immensely until two of us got sick. That was not a fun part. But during the good times we created. I started a bunch of postcards that I never finished. Fast forward those three years and I re-discovered the unfinished postcards. The Gardener is one of them which is now complete. I have entered it as one of my three pieces for the upcoming NW Collage Society virtual show which opens October 1 on the NW Collage Society website.

Creative Gents Passport

Creative Gents Passport

It was fun doing spreads again. I have been doing postcards and individual stand alone pieces for so long I had gotten away from a journal type piece. There is a different challenge working in a passport or in someone's journal. 'Do not mess' it up keeps ringing in my ears.

Creative Gents Passport

Creative Gents Passport

More passport spreads.....speaking of passports. I had taken a passport and filled it with exciting this and thats. Do you think I can find it. It is in one of those black hole safe places I presume. I have searched high and low and do not have a clue where it is!

Passport - Vienna Bound

Passport - Vienna Bound

This spread is in one of the passports traveling around the world to artists from Vienna. When the passport is filled it heads back to the owner there.

Creative Gents Passport

Creative Gents Passport

I belong to a group of gentlemen artists who frequently send something to each other for a collaboration.  We sent passports around this last year and I finally got several of the spreads done and sent off several of the passports to others to work on.

I belong to a group of artist who are all men who call themselves the Creative Gents. We have been passing around passports in which we do two spreads. this is one that I did recently for one of the passports.

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 24

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 24
Yes, this is the last of the series with the exception of the missing one. I still have not found it. But I really have not spent too much time looking because I just finished 104 new pieces which will be debuting this fall. The virus is not keeping me from doing art that is for sure. Several people have expressed to me that they are amazed at my productivity during this difficult time. I get it that the pandemic has been very devastating to many people's creativity. If production during this time has caused you to not produce go with it. You will be back. Give yourself a break if that is what you need then take it. I am sure you are doing other things that are helping you. Baking bread or muffins. That is a kinesthetic for of creativity. Know that I am here for support if you need it.

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 23

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 23
I particularily llike the richness of the colors of this piece. They all seem to be comfortable together. The blue seems to be backlit giving the piece a glow.

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 22

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 22
It's funny. I looked at this postcard and thought, did I publish this one previous. No but they are all starting to run together. Two more to go in this series. Happy weekend!

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 21

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 21
This pandemc is affecting each of us a little bit differently. Yesterday I was speaking to a freind who has done very little art since March. Perhaps the creative juice have been frozen for awhile. I know some people who it has spured them into new directions. I know others who it has not affected their work output at all. Whatever your situation it is yours and that is OK. No guilt allowed! We will find our way.

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 20

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 20
I do not know much about html coding. Something very unusual is happening when I try to post an image these days. As I prepare the blog entry the photo of the image does not show. What does show is the html language. So I do not know what photo is up. I have to publish and then look to see. I do not know why this is happening but at least the photo is there when I publish. After I publish I go back and write something under the html language. It all works but just is very strange because this never happened until recently. I have ordered a new iPad and I am waiting for it to arrive. It is an iPad Pro. To say the least it is exciting because I have wanted a Pro for a long time. It is my 70th birthday present to myself. Soon! :-)

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 19

Brand Spankin' New Postcards - 19
This morning I completed my second set of 52 Pickup cards. If you have never seen the first set you can go back to 2019 on this blog to puruse them. Seth Apter taught the workshop on how to make the cards near Vancouver, B.C. a few years back. I made one set and then another but gave away many of the second set. So I finally finished the second set and now I have them in a clamshell box for safe keeping. I actually have started a third set and will be working on them over the next few weeks. I will share the second set of 52 soon.
