When I was a kid we would go visit the Government Locks in Ballard.  I love to roll down the terraced hill on the left.  One can not do that any longer as the Canadian geese have discovered the locks.

This is Times Square in 1913.  I remember my first visit to New York City.  I was enamored with the lights of Broadway and the subway to Coney Island.

This is a better view of the Smith Tower.  I have been up to the reception room near the top of the building. It is called the Chinese Room.  Above that, in the pyramid, is an apartment.

I am doing a series of ATCs with a memory theme.  Two things in this photo bring up memories.  The first is the ferry on Puget sound.  It was called the Kalakala and has been retired for years. However someone bought it and I am not sure what the plan is for it.  The other memory in this ATC is the white pointed skyscraper.  It is the Smith Tower and it use to be the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi River when I was a kid.  Now it is surrounded on three sides by much taller buildings.

When I started this collage I had no idea where it was going.  I added a paper given to me.  I created some papers that are circular.  I found a great chair and then i had to find an image of someone sitting in that chair.  It took awhile for this one to be completed.

 I particularly like how this ATC turned out.  I collaged two photographs and then added red papers that are floating down fro the sky.

The dots in the upper right come from a plastic bread wrapper.  The background words are from a children’s book covered with a transparent paper

This postcard was days in the making, maybe even months. Finished it yesterday.  I really like how it turned out.

I Just Felt Like Doing ATCs - 17

 

I am keeping one step ahead of myself creating for posts on this blog.  Sometimes I am way ahead like 20 posts ready to go and sometimes I a day by day.  I am working on about ten ATCs simultaneously and I also have done a postcard.  So tomorrow is an all art workday.  I had other plans and I am biting the bullet.  I will take a break for a walk on the beach though.

I am still trying to use up ephemera on the table where I am working.  The easiest part is the background.  I could do backgrounds all day long.  Middle ground is second easiest and foreground takes more effort.

Last weekend I taught a collage workshop.  One of the students in the class, Connie, had a stack of papers she had made.  I went through the stack and oohed and awed  (is that how you spell those?) over her papers.  She gave me one that you see in the background of this piece.  Thanks Connie.  I made the ATC that you see with her inspirational paper.

The top of this collaged ATC you will find a marbled piece of paper.  I did the marbling on newsprint. The cityscape is a vintage one of Seattle with the Olympic Mountains in the background.

The tag with the diamond shaped lines is only attached on the left side of the ATC.  It gives a 3D effect.

In my case nothing is planned.  I just start and see where it will lead.  In this case a city scene, a grey sky, a bird, and a boy make a composition.

 I like being limited to ephemeral stash available.  I have only two boxes and so I have to make it work.

 I did another fish piece awhile ago.  This seems to compliment that piece really well.

  I was not sure that the background images of fabric would work with the buildings and the addition of the blue man.  It does though.

Mixing the modern with the vintage works.  I am reminded of Paris where modern architecture is interspersed with the building from the past.  It all seems to work.
