Teabag Book (page 10)

Page 10

This is the last page of the book.  Since making this book I have been busy with more altered images using iColorama.  So stay tuned for how I use them in the future.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

As you watch the slideshow of the teabag collages the largest of the slides partially remains showing.  I have to figure out how to get rid of it so only the two second slide shows at anyone time.  Isn't there always something to figure out?

I usually do not use glue sticks.  My medium of choice for gluing is matte medium.  But matte medium would not have worked since I was using a white substrate and part of that substrate would be part of the composition.

Most of today was spent in my studio dreaming up new projects.  I love figuring out how I am going to create something even if I do not know precisely how I am going to get there.  Just jumping in with both feet so to speak.... :-)

Last night at the Belltown Bookies monthly meeting we were treated to a fabulous show of works by many of the members.  Our meetings are always inspiration but last night was especially terrific.  I can't wait for each event because I always learn something.  Last night I took voracious notes and learned beyond expectations.

What a change the collage makes taking it from the whole and reducing it to the part!  I like the part better than the original.

I particularly like how the image of this man came out after altering it in iColorama.  I have used him twice in the teabag productions.  There is something about his eyes that are captivating.

Just where do ideas come from anyway?  For me, my brain never turns off and especially while I am sleeping it must be thinking.  I frequently wake up with something that pops into my mind immediately.  This especially happens when I have been pondering something and do not readily have the answer.  Then all of a sudden it is there.

I know many people use PhotoShop and once you master the techniques they are basically the same thing that are available in many of the applications available for creating.  iColorama certainly shortcuts the learning curve.  Each of the portraits in this book have been altered in iColorama. Sometimes it is the person and many times it is mostly the backgrounds or even both.  I am gelling a plan for each of the vintage portraits that I have been altering other than what I have already done.

Using teabag papers for the background has given me another idea for a series which I hopefully will start today.  I have 13 collages to prepare for the final competition that I entered last year in New Zealand.  I think I will use teabags in those pieces.

There are ten pages in this teabag accordion book.  Each of the collages is similar to the five that I shared already.  Most of the collages that are inside the teabags were adhered together with a staple.

Should Not Pass

Should Not Pass

I am running out of the cloth teabags and have to order the tea online so I can get some more.  It took awhile for me to find a company that sold the cloth ones that I liked and also had tea that I preferred.  Hopefully they are still in business!  :-)

Eugenie

Eugenie
I rather like off-setting the collage on the white watercolor paper.  Of course it is hard to tell the whole of the card because of the paper color.

Just about the nicest thing in the world happened this past weekend.  Our neighbors volunteered to clean ten years of moss off or our roof.  I can't believe it yet but it is done and they also put Moss Out on the roof which will kill any remaining moss.  Thanks Chad and Madan.

Pi

As promised yesterday I am catching up for the day missed.  The most amazing thing happened yesterday and I will report on it tomorrow.  But today is a two-fer.

Pi

I completed this piece using the same process as in the piece called Meiko.  Last week I hosted a collage meetup at a local bookstore which has a large dining area and other meeting space.  I begin this series while chatting away with other collage artists.

Meiko

Meiko

I just love this portrait.  I worked on it in iColorama before printing it on my Polaroid Zip printer.  Next I did a mini collage inside a cloth teabag, adding a postage stamp to the teabag string and a bit of Japanese ledger book.  Using a paper teabag which I had painted on my geli plate and stenciled, I glued the whole collage to a piece of watercolor paper which is just visible.

The Mask 02

The Mask 02
This might be a bit scary!  My personal shopper, Sally, found fabric with different masks like you see here.  Sally loves to shop at the Goodwill bins which is an experience like no other.  I have chatted about the bins previously.  The bins are the last stop before Goodwill heaven so we think.  They are huge trough like carts with whatever did not sell at the regular Goodwill.

I forgot to post on the blog yesterday and will catch up with a two-fer tomorrow most likely.  Today is day two of roof cleaning.  My neighbor asked me if I wanted my roof moss removed and so two neighbors are going to clean it today.  They did theirs yesterday.  I can not believe their generosity.  It has been ten years without cleaning and the north side is pretty mossy.  I get to be the go-fer and supervisor. :-)

Grandma and the Kids

Grandma and the Kids

This is an actual photo of my maternal grandmother.  My earliest memory is when I was three and we were escorting her body back to Iowa for burial.  I was told she was the nicest person anyone would want to meet.

Fun day planned.  Every other month a group of collage artists get together to work on whatever projects they bring.  It is a time of chat, food, and art.  We have a perfect place to meet as it is connected to a great bookstore and several food court type restaurants.

Daydreaming

Daydreaming
Remember the good old school days when one sat in the classroom looking out the window daydreaming.  Or perhaps when one is lost in thought surrounded by hundreds of people.  Or remember when you are driving and then you can't remember passing someplace that you wanted to be because you were daydreaming?  Some of my best thoughts and ideas come when I am daydreaming.

I have completed a whole clown series in the last few months that I would love to share on this blog but have to wait until December when I send out the last of the series to the round robin group.  So here is a clown piece that is not in the series to tide me over.

Miss Helpful Hints
Having sunshine for a few days really makes a difference.  We went for a few hour drive yesterday and ended up on an island with gorgeous views of the water.  Just being out and having a picnic makes the winter seem like it will be a distant memory soon.
