ATC - Visual Texture 04

I woke to three more inches of snow this morning.  Then all Hell broke loose and by 10:00 there was eight inches and counting.  The drive down the mountain was a bit exciting but I took it slow and easy.  No problems with the new tires and 4-wheel drive.

ATC - Visual Texture 03

 Two-for Sunday…..

No generator for two more weeks at the cabin.  It is so nice that a neighbor across the bridge over the Stillaguamish is letting me use their WiFi.  This is such a wonderful, helpful community.  I guess that is what living in a small town means.  Yeah!

Little Bit of History Series - 05

Here is the "lost" but found Little Bit of History No. 5.  It took a bit of doing but I found it thank goodness.

ATC - Visual Texture 02

The generator at the cabin is not working properly and the repairman cannot come for two weeks.  So internet is going to be from the neighbor's cabin.  He has graciously agreed to let me access the internet from his account.  If I miss a day or two that it why.

ATC - Visual Texture 01

Two-fer Thursday.... time is flying for me.  I had a doctor's appointment yesterday morning and I played Mah Jongg yesterday afternoon.  So uploading to the blog just did not happen.  I always try and make it up though......

This time for the international ATC group that I am part of the theme was textures.  I chose visual texture.  There are eight ATCs in this series....

Little Bit of History Series - 09

This is the last spread in this series with the exception of the missing no 5.  I will post it when I find the image.  Having two places to do art is fun but sometimes inconvenient when something is at the other place.  Not complaining though! :-)

Little Bit of History Series - 08

I do love vintage photographs.  The green paper was made using rubbing alcohol.

Little Bit of History Series - 07

Two-for Monday

I really like how this one turned out.  It feels like a very strong piece.  I like how it goes from lighter to darker.  Perfect for movement.

Little Bit of History Series - 06

 Two-fer Monday…..

I did not have internet yesterday.  The generator was out at the cabin.  So I am catching up today.  Little Bit of History -05 got deleted by accident.  I can not tell what it was because the book that it is in is at the cabin.  So I will post it when I return later in the week as I am home for a few days.  I might have another way of resurrecting 05.  Stay tuned!

Little Bit of History Series - 04

Could she have been an up and coming movie star?  Don’t you just love the style of the 40s?

Little Bit of History Series - 03

It is hard to believe or maybe we do not want to believe it, but there are lots of young people out on the streets who have to survive on their wits and street knowledge.  Maybe they are on the streets because they have been kicked out of their homes.  Maybe they are on the streets because they have run away.  Whatever the reason they are the “invisible visible”.   They exist.

Little Bit of History Series - 02

One of the guys in the photo was an army buddy of my father’s during WWII.  This piece is very personal to me.  Art is a good way to express what is on one’s mind.  I hear from many artists about using a photo that is a family or personal image.  Many people can’t use the original.  I tend to just go ahead with the original and not worry about it.  After all who is going to inherit them anyway and would they really care much about the original.  Photos tend to hang out in a box and no one cares years later.  I say go ahead and use them.

Little Bit of History Series - 01

I was gifted a bunch of vintage photographs.  They go so well in a collage with the text transfers.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 11

No. 11 is the last of this series of playing cards.  I enjoyed creating these so much I may do a series of 52 using a whole deck of cards.  I could then make a box to house them.  I will have to think about this as incorporating the twelve royal cards might prove to be quite challenging.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 09

Making these APCs was so much fun I might have to do another series.  Revisiting them after making them weeks ago is kind of strange.  I know I made them but when I look at them here online I think “Did I make that one?”

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 08

The signature at the bottom is from a check written in 1872.  Can you imagine a document you signed being used in 100 or more years?  It would never have come into my imagination until I used it myself in this piece.  So maybe something I have written, a letter for instance, will surface years to come.  I will be long gone by then. :-)

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 07

I started working vertically on this card as I wanted to use the tree. The piece  ended up with a combination of vertical and horizontal ephemera.  I like that the orange highlighting tape had a flaw…see by the spade.  I like how the red grounds the composition.  Yesterday I was asked about which highlighting tape I recommend.  So I put the link from Amazon in yesterday’s comments on the one I purchased.  I am sure there are many but that is the one I chose and lucked out liking it.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 06

I am so loving the colored highlighting tape I got on Amazon and Etsy.  This time it is a bluish green color.  I really like how the five layers come together.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 05

I love it when I can get a larger piece of the crustiness left on a gelli plate.  It appears just above Netique in the above.  It peeled off in one nice loveliness.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 04

This one seems pleasing to the eye.  I like how the sand dunes go together with the transfer of the No. 5.  Everything is fairly soft but with the punch of the black number 8 and spades and the small dialog piece of ephemera.  Works for me! :-)

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 03

To be able to use the photos for this series I had to crop the images.  Cropping is a fun process.  What to keep and what to remove when using the piece as a smaller part of the original?  Have I kept the integrity or do I change it up?

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 02

Many of the images I used for this series I got from Jacki Long.  Jacki is a great artist.  Thanks Jacki for sending those vintage materials my way.

Artist Playing Card January 2022 - 01

I wanted to continue using the technique of transferring words from magazines onto my gelli plate and then using the resulting printed papers in collages.  As you will remember usually only glossy magazine pages work in this transfer process.  I especially like using foreign magazines like Cote Sud.  (There should be an accent mark over the e in Cote.). I am going to hunt up some Spanish magazines soon and try them out.

Pink Madness No. 11

Pink and green go so well together.  I had not realized that not only are there dots in the ephemera on the right but the woman’s dress has them, too.  I like when that happens….I do not see something until I later look at a piece.

Pink Madness No.10

This is another busy piece but there is a secret.  Can you find it?  It is pretty camouflaged.  I will give you a clue.  It is on the right side of this ATC.

Pink Madness No. 9

This piece works for me. Sometimes the composition gods come together and one really like the piece.  That is the case for me.

Pink Madness No. 8

This one is busy, too, but I like the busy feel to it.  My favorite part is the vegetation seemingly growing out of the woman’s head.
