Silhouette ATC 01 and 02

For the international ATC group to which I belong the last quarter of 2022 the task was to use silhouettes.  I decided to also use different languages as the background.

I Can't Stand It, There's More APCs

It is funny how one days creative ideas just do not pop up and one is stuck.  Then there are days like today when ideas flourish,  What is with that?

APCs Keep on Keepin' On

I like the unexpected.  Finding something that many people would just toss out and using it in art is satisfying.  In the first one, the teabag seam stops me and makes the viewer stop and look again.  What is that?  Nice to have the task of figuring it out.

Yikes! Do APCs Multiply Quickly?

Want to have an afternoon of fun?  Just take a pile of ephemera and a deck of cards.  Tear or cut the papers and make collages.  It is a blast of a time!

APCs, More is More

The curved lines of the spades images with the curved lines of the abstraction of a mushroom compliment each other.  It is totally unintentional that the two playing cards are the 3 of spades.  I like it when that happens.

Here We Go Again with More APCs

I have always been a fan of sepia photographs.  Paired with the mesh teabag works well.

The APCs Just Keep Coming.....

I have said this previously….I like it when pieces of ephemera extend beyond the borders.  In this case most of my APC pieces have formed a rectangular shape in the center of the playing cards. So in this card you can see I extended in three directions with the buff piece of ephemera.

Continuing with APCs

I have sort of lost track on whether or not I have shown some of my APCs previously or not.  It is possible.  Please forgive me if I have.

Dead Letter

This piece, Dead Letter, is my entry into the fall NW Collage Show.

Yet More APCs

You might have to enlarge the second one to see the photo better.  I love it when pieces of art extend beyond the main borders of the piece like in the first one with the teabag paper extension.

Another Two APCs

There is something about simplicity that draws me to make small collages.  Even though the the first one is a six element excluding the playing card substrate this collage feels tight because of the boundaries that I allowed it.  Tight being a good thing.

Two More APCs

Cleaning up my art cart a little I found several APCs that I have not previously shown.

ATC Book 10

This is the last ATC book that I am able to share.  The eleventh one was mailed and I failed to scan the collages inside.

ATC Book - 09

I think it is about time to make more of these ATC books.  They are way too much fun to make.  I guess small or tiny is my thing right now.

ATC Book - 08

Who would have thought that it would be easy to sewing by hand or by machine on teabag mesh?  It is.

ATC Book - 07

There are 11 books in this series.  Several of them have been sent off as gifts. After I did the first one for a book exchange I kept on making them and I will make more as I do more portraits.

ATC Book 06

I did a set of ATCs honoring Rosa Parks this summer for one of my ATC groups and so I decided to make a ATC book with her portrait.  The portrait turned out with Rosa being younger than most images we see of her.

ATC Book 5

I also used teabag mesh on some of the book covers which has also been stitched.

ATC Book 4

Most of the book covers have a piece of cloth with stitching.  In this case the cloth is sari ribbon.

ATC Book 3

One thing I love about these ATC books is that when you open them all the way so the front and back covers meet you see the total portrait.

ATC (Artist Trading Card) Book 01

While recuperating from my first surgery this year I had to work either from my chair or from bed.  So working small was necessary.  I started making books the size of an ATC or 3.5 x 2.5 inches.  I covered the outside of the books with portraits that I had done and with collage material.  Here is the first one.

Blue Caterpillar Stitched Book 23

I have been working fairly small for quite some time.  Recently I had a discussion with another artist about working small.  It seems some feel that it might be more difficult to work small rather than large.  I don’t feel that way but maybe feel that large is more intimidating.   Thoughts?
