For me it is almost if the clothing of the gentleman and the background create a sort of camouflage.

I haven’t looked at this collage in awhile.  Publishing it here and opening it for the first time gave me a start.  It was as if the collage was twisted and turn.  It must be an optical illusion.

There is a lot going on in this collage.  There is fabric from sari ribbon; a vintage map; a packing tape transfer; a partial photo of a Broadway show; ephemera with letters and a couple of other pieces of ephemera; and finally some graphite pencil.  Yikes!

The collages in this series are in an ATC sized art journal.  There are ten books housed in a box that I made.  I have entered this box and journals into the Summer Show for the Puget Sound Book Arts.

March 2023 ATC

 

For the international ATC group to which I belong the theme for the first quarter of the year was a game that we enjoyed playing as a child.  I used Scrabble.  I wanted the ATC to extend beyond the boundaries of the 2.5 x 3.5 inch ATC requirement.  So this time I added string with attached letters.  It worked.

Sometimes I create a piece that uses colors I would never think go together.  But I am frequently surprised on how well they do.

I look at what I post sometimes weeks after a piece is completed.  I am frequently surprised and say, “Did I create that collage?”

I just love creating three element collages.  I have friends who look at collages that I have made and they ask me what is the meaning or message behind this one or that one.  I turn it around on them and ask them what they see or think.

These two pieces are from a ATC sized book that I recently completed.  In the top one I used two heads at the bottom of the card as the introduction page to the book.  Mini collages are in.  I love creating them.

No Person Under 21 Allowed - Postcard

 

I just love how this postcard turned out.  I had done a packing tape transfer from a newspaper article in The NY Times and the piece that you see on the left was the leftover from the process.  Of course it is lighter than the article image since some of the ink has been removed. But I like how it works out so well. Also the No Person Under 21 Allowed was from an article as well.  It just works for me.

I like seemingly odd things collaged together.  The back ground behind the fish is a bread wrapper from Ireland.

This past week I did not have much time to work on art but I did find two hours to create postcards and I used ephemera sent to me last year that I recently found on my desk.  This piece has a packing tape transfer.  Can you find it?

I imagine that many people viewing this piece above would think it is digital.  It is not.  It was totally done laying packing tape transfers over a substrate from a cereal box.  I added a piece of gelli plate papers and then a few words that I do not know where it came from.  I love how the colors work together.

I did a little bit of art last week when I was down to the ocean.  I made six postcards with four totally finished.  I will work on the others this coming week.  Most of the time this past week I was organizing my new location for the next six months.

 Don’t you just want to know what this woman is laughing about.  One could come up with many narratives about her and those men in the background.

The chair came from a chocolate candy bar wrapper.  I think the chair and the person work together even though the chair is not in proportion to the woman.

I decided to glue the ephemera directly on the journal page for this one. Negative space becomes more integral to the piece.
