Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 11

If you are a collage artist you see ephemera everywhere you turn.  In my case, I found it at Costco.  Yup! Do you know what piece of paper I am talking about?  It is the white circles and blue-green centers.  I scanned it off a Kleenex box.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 10

I have to get cracking and get two caterpillar stitched books ready for an art show in eastern Washington that I have been asked to join.  The two books are the same size as this one above.  I think I have about five more spreads to finish and then some bits and pieces on several others.  I can do it.  I want to deliver the book sculpture myself but may have to mail it.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 09

I added “Look of Shame” for this vintage power couple because I am thinking that she has done something she feels guilty for and he is her lawyer.  I suppose I could have called this piece metamorphism.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 08

Bottling it up does not help.  Tell it like it is.  Well, I do not know how I feel about that.  I am kind of on the fence.  Sometimes people tell too much and it causes issues.  Other times one keeps something inside and it does not help either.  It is situationally defined I guess.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 07

The number transfer onto the gelli plate worked better than I thought it would.  I used a Posca pen directly onto the plate.  Once it was dry I added a layer of paint.  When that dried I added another layer of paint and pulled the print.  I was able to get two or three good prints.  I think I will try writing directly onto the plate and see what happens.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 06

I love the movement of this guy in this piece.  It is as if he is introducing the spread with the flow of his jacket.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 05

There is no truer statement this month of Pride.  Silence does equal death.  It felt as if the US was going in the direction of equality.  But now the ugly face of discrimination is rearing its’ head again.  Conservation politicians are trying the rally their base again using discrimination to fill their coffers.

Caterpillar Book Box-Book 1 - 04

I am so into green.  Blue use to be my color but now since living in the mountains for several days each week I have fallen in love with green.  The new green growth of the fir trees is amazing and I have that gorgeous color right out the windows.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 1 - 03

I am closing down on my stay at the mountain cabin that I have been renting since November.  The owner is selling it and his cabin and property.  It goes on the market July 1.  I might be able to stay until August 1 but I have to figure that all out.  I really do not think I want to be there when prospective buyers are going through it.  Plus having all my personal stuff out of the cabin will cause me to haul it back and forth each week.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 1 - 02

Many days ago I started book 2 out of order and then uploaded book 1 - 01.  So here is book 2 - 02 in the caterpillar series. No comment other than here is another pride piece celebrating June which is pride month.

Brian’s Journal Collaboration 2022 - 04

This is the fourth and final spread that I did in Brian’s journal.  The use of teabags with burned holes is a technique that we did when the Creative Gents met last fall in Oregon for our retreat.

Brian’s Journal Collaboration 2022 - 03

I guess the term collaboration for the journal entries into Brian’s journal is incorrect.  It is more of a round robin.  I have one more journal to work in and I will have completed my spreads in all four journals.

Brian’s Journal Collaboration 2022 - 02

I am  all aglow with the colors in this piece.  The “circle” or “flower” shapes bring movement to the piece.  I like the balance of the composition, too.

Brian’s Journal Collaboration 2022 - 01

Brian, Terry, Beatriz, and I have been working in each others’ journals for the past many months. This is a piece that I did in Brian’s journal recently.

Royce

What I like about the portraits that I have drawn is that they appear to me as the general population.  For me they are just the everyday person.  They look to have a carefree quality about them.

The Butler

This man’s look could be the definition of seriousness or perhaps he is a man in mourning.  Maybe he is worried about something.  I call him The Butler though.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 22

This is the final spread in book 2. Book 1 will come soon.  I will try and do a video of the whole book.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 20

I look at this piece and I see softness.  I see simplicity.  I see a color that I particularly like.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 19

One can faintly see numerals and letters in the background on the right.  The letters and numbers were written directly onto a gelli plate using Posca pens.  Then a thin layer of paint was applied over them after they were completely dry. A print was immediately taken.  Ghost prints are possible.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 18

Two-fer Friday……

Yesterday I had to drive home to pick up my forgotten medication.  It threw me off my scheduled activities for the day.  Hence, I did not publish.

How could one not love vintage photos?  I love how they catch a moment in time and tell a narrative.  A story certainly could be woven around each and every photo.  The body language in this one definitely send my mind spinning tales.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 17

My landlord at my cabin has a dog, Scout.  Scout spends a great deal of time with me here.  Every morning even when I am not at the cabin he comes over to see me.  It is just his routine.  He has to check up to see that I am around and OK I guess.  He is a wonderful dog.  My landlord is selling this cabin, his cabin, and the rest of the land and moving back to his condo.  He has to find a new home for Scout for many reasons.  I wish I could take in Scout.  I think that their is a possibility that the landlord’s niece will take him.  Fingers crossed that Scout will have a new home.

This photo, although not of Scout, just reminds me of him and his love of life.  I will miss him.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 16

My question is were safari hats popular in the early part of the 20th Century?  It looks like leisure suits were.  I will have to do some research to see what I can find.  I love this vintage photo.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 15

The portrait was created using Procreate.  I love using my apple pen to draw.  I then uploaded the portrait to iColorama and using the rebound which makes the portrait totally white, I started erasing.  I liked the partial portrait which I printed and added as ephemera to the spread.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 14

The circles remind me of cheerios.  Can you image wallpaper with stripes and Cherrios?

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 13

Funny how things happen.  I have my phone set to alert me every six hours so I can take my medicine. When I returned to bed I noticed something on the wall above the pillows.  Then I noticed sawdust all over the pillows.  There is some insect boring into the paneling I guess.  Then I opened the blog to post and what do I find but insects.  Life is waking up here in the mountains as flying ants have made themselves noticed, too.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 11

It shocking actually that the many reservoir lakes in California and the Colorado River have continually less water.  Demand is great.  Supply is dwindling.  Politicians need to wake up.  Climate change is real.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 10

That is the question about preserving bee species, is time running out?  It seems so complicated that beekeepers move hives around from orchard to orchard so pollination can occur.  What is mankind doing to its’ planet.  The clock is ticking.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 09

Two-fer Wednesday

This may seem busy but it works for me. I especially like using the crossword puzzle ephemera with the writing.

Caterpillar Book Box - Book 2 - 08

 Two-fer Wednesday

I like the simplicity of the background, the photo and the writing.
