Feed Them

feed them

Another postcard in my letters series.  I was given a large stack of art magazines.  Many pages have large letters hence the use of them in this series of postcards.  The dog came from the flea market recently attended.

Relic

Relic
For one of my RR groups we exchange a piece of art based on a theme chosen by the recipient.  My friend, Meredith, requested Relic as her theme.  So this is what I came up with.  After eleven months each person will bind their eleven pieces of art into a book.

Be Quick

Be Quick
Well, I am pretty exhausted from the take down of the NW Collage Society Show yesterday.  We worked from 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. doing everything that is required to return all the art to the artists....take down, transport, sitting while pick up goes on....one long day.  But today I can relax, at least this morning, doing a bit of art finish work.

Be Quick is a postcard that I will send out to one of the volunteers yesterday.  I found the image of the man with the glasses at a flea market a few weeks ago.  He was on a game card in a very old box with several others.  I love finding such things and my weekly haunt of garage sales will start this weekend now that the weather is better.  More ephemera is out there to purchase I have a feeling!

Corn

Corn
In this Crystal Neubauer collage activity we had a few minutes to select a pile of ephemera that we liked.  Then the clock was set for 5 minutes and we created very quickly.  Corn resulted.

One thing that I forgot to mention in a previous blog entry was when we went to the beach to collect mark making tools there was an old bunker.  Actually it is a concrete shell of an old factory power station that existed on the site.  The factory created leather shoes.  Graffiti artists have created on the sides of the building both inside and out.  I wanted to explore the inside, no easy feat I might add, where I found flaking pieces of layered spray paint on the ground.  I feel I scored big time because the layers resemble mica and with a little assistance flake off.  The yellow in this collage is a piece of the layered graffiti.

100 Shares and a Black and White Study

Black and White Study
We spent the last morning of the Crystal Neubauer workshop creating 4 x 4 collages.  The task for 100 shares was to use ephemera with similar color values to create.  In the black and white study we were tasked to use just that....black and white or shade there of.  I added the color piece when I was finished as I can't seem to get away from color.

A Bee Said and This Spa

A Bee Said
This Spa

A week ago I was in a Crystal Neubauer mark making workshop.  On the last day she gave us five collage activities to do.  In A Bee Said we were tasked to find three pieces of ephemera to collage.  I added some paint to finish it off.

In This Spa I had some extra time to play and created what you see.

Creatures

Creatures
This week I took an online Roxanne Coble class called CREATURES.  Here is my result.  It was totally fun although totally in Roxanne's style.  I love her work which is in Roxanne's words "kick-ass" distinguishable.  Not sure that I will do another one but I did have a week of fun which was worth the cost of the class.  I tried to make it my own and I tried to add new ideas that I have come up with to again make it my own, but with the addition of the creatures it is so one representation of another's work.

Roxanne's online class is full of enthusiasm and excitement.  She is in her element teaching to others. If you are interested in seeing more of her work just copy  or click on this link....

Mark Making Tools

John's Mark Making Tools

Class Mark Making Tools
This past weekend I was thrilled to be in Crystal Neubauer's Mark Making workshop.  What fun we had!  On the first full day we went beach combing for tools that we could use to create papers using India Ink and other inks. Upon returning to the workroom we created tools out of what we found. The larger tool in the first photo was made from a stick, some seaweed that is bulbous, and some marine rope that I found.  I decorated the tool with material, leather, safety pins, and string.

The second tool I made was a paint brush using horse hair (we were on a horse ranch), bamboo, fabric, a bit of a book spine, and heavy thread.  Over the next few days I will share the collages that we created.  If you have not seen Crystal's new book or have not taken a workshop from her, I highly recommend both.

Land of the Carrots

Land of the Carrots
I am always amazed at how my imagination works.  I am as equally amazed at how things turn out when one does not have a particular goal in mind for the end product.  I just started creating and then started looking through ephemera that I had prepared weeks ago and Land of the Carrots just happened.  I image that the man is telling his boy a story just before bed.  What is your bent on it?

Composition I Do Not Like

Jailbird

Rapscallion
I just do not think these two postcards work.  I post them because I post everything I work on.  I tried out so many things and there are portions of each card I do like but overall I do not care for either of them. I think it is the composition? Hmm!  What I do like are the hands.  I like the color choices.  I like the target birds on Rapscallion.  I like the lines made with the sewing tool.  All together, NO!

Round Robin Envelope Exchange - Thomas - Exercise Series

Cover

Spotface

The Gymnast

Lift Those Weights!

Inside Cover - The Swimmer
Several days ago I uploaded the first image to this blog just to tantalize Thomas in Florida.  Today I mail all of what will belong to him.  Thomas in Florida has been warned that I am uploading my mailing to him.  I plan on putting the three smaller collages inside the folded bottom one before enclosing them all in a see through envelope.  I may add decoration to that envelope as well.  There are ten participants in the envelope exchange and we are about halfway through our mailings.
