The Conductor

The Conductor

Trains have always fascinated me.  Although I rarely take the time to ride on them anymore I did frequently as a kid.  An interest in trains is something that my father and I had in common.  In this country we don't ride them much unless we live in a large metropolitan area.  When Tim and I  lived in Europe we took them all the time.  It was the thing to do there.  I think it would have been amazing to cross the wide expanse of North America on a train right after the first trans-continental railroad was built.  If I were to travel cross-country now I would want to do it in style with my own compartment for sleeping.  We are always in such a hurry to get to our destination that it seems taking a train is a luxury now.

Some books that I have read recently that I can recommend.....

The Whistler
The Underground Railroad
Precious and Grace
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
A Man Called Ove *If I had to choose one of these to read it would be this one.  It is just a fun read.

Another thing we share, love of trains!
It's on my bucket list to travel in my own compartment, anywhere! ;o)

Love the collage John- especially the blue building with orange windows. I have 2 train experiences- when I was in 7th grade my whole family took the train to California to see my mother's brother and family- it was not a separate compartment- I have had that experience though. Ron and I took the train to Portland Oregon and then onto Wantachee to see a friend- we did have our own compartment- these days they are small but better than being in the general seating. It cost almost double of what it would have cost to fly. But...having dinner in the dining car as the sun was going down in Glacier is an experience I will never forget.

I just read a Man called Ove. He in some of his habits reminds me of my husband - who loves to just fix things. I found it amusing and profound in the many ways of the human heart.
