San Francisco Postcards - 01

San Francisco Postcards - 01
My art friend, Elsa,  gave me a great idea weeks ago.  Her suggestion was to make a postcard each day on my trip,  mailing them back home.  When I return I could then bind the postcards into a book.  I love the idea.  So I started creating once I arrived in San Francisco.  I started with the rule that something on my trip should be included in the postcard.  Since I went down the Oregon coast and through the Redwoods each of the first few has something about those places in the postcard collage.

I like the idea of having something realistic with the abstract.  I have mailed five so far and am working on the next four.  As I have been creating I still am including something significant about the trip but I am allowing myself a wide berth.  You will see what I mean as the series progresses.

On the address side of the postcard is a miniature photo of some site on the trip.  I have a Polaroid zip printer that does a fantastic job.  I use my cell phone to take the photos.  It all seems to be working well.

What a great idea!! Mailing each of them home is brilliant...giving them some patina and then ending up with a book! I can't wait to go on a trip and try this. Thanks for sharing!!

Wow, John, you most likely drove right by my place. I'm just off the 101 in Fortuna. If you're coming back this way and want to meet up, email or call me 707 499 3379. ❤

I love the postcard mailed to yourself travel book idea! That Elsa! She has great ideas, doesn't she? Your postcards are amazing and your book, when bound, will be a wonderful memory of your trip to SF. Can't wait to see it in person.
