I am very comfortable working with a 5 x 7 inch substrate.  It is always so manageable.  I am not limited to this size but it is always my go to dimension.  At first I had to decide if I was bothered by the flower not extending all the way to the bottom of the substrate, but I decide it is as if the women are dancing with it and it does not matter.
