The grey green of the woman's dress seems perfect with the other green and blues in this piece.  Today I began the process of bookbinding five new journals.  You will see them soon.

52 Pickup 68
Heading back to share more of the 52 Pickup series where we left off at the end of November.  Today I completed two new series.  One is a round robin but I won't be showing it off until December 2019 after everyone who is participating gets their postcards.  The other one is a series of 26 pieces which are also ATCs.  They won't debut here until later in 2019.

Clown 14.2 - Round Robin Series

Clown 14.2 - Round Robin Series
The last of the series.  This one comes with four different papers for the background, black diamond shapes, paper that was used as Christmas wrap (green and white piece), papers that I made using deli paper, and the orange squared paper that actually is a type of deli paper.  The clown is a conglomeration of clown "parts" collaged together.

Clown 14.1 - Round Robin Series

I guess I can not do the math.  There were twelve people in the exchange including me.  One piece got lost in the mail so I sent out mine after months of hoping that it would be found.  Then I made one more that you see here.  The should have made a total of thirteen.  However, I have fourteen!  Is that what they use to call new math?

Guess what?  I finally found the original list of robin robin participants and there were thirteen.  Mystery solved!

So this is 14.1.  I think it fits in the series.  Tomorrow is 14.2 and really the end of this round robin! :-)

Clown 13.2 - Round Robin Series

Clown 13.2 -Round Robin Series
The response to the clown series has been very positive.  I am amazed at how many people do not care for clowns.  It must be held over reactions to experiences when one was young.  With that said even those people who do not care for them have liked the series.

Somehow I am getting the last few clown pieces out of order.  Doesn't red just make everything pop?

Happy holidays.  I hope you are enjoying special times with your loved ones.

Clown 13.1 - Round Robin Series

Two-fer day.  Sorry but I was so busy yesterday I did not get around to blogging.

Clown 13.1
This is the one that I sent off to the person who lived in Belgium but who now lives in Spain.  I found out recently that this one arrived safe and sound.  Thank goodness!  I sent mail to South Africa some time ago and the mail never got to the person.  After about three attempts we decided not to exchange anymore.

Clown 12.2 - Round Robin Exchange
This was to be the last of the clown series but  then one got lost in the mail to Belgium.  So I have made a couple more which I will share next.  The background came from a pastry bag that I acquired from the local bakery and from a circus themed paper I found online.

Clown 11.2 - Round Robin Exchange

This piece makes me smile.  I was never able to stand on my hands like this.  When I watch gymnastics during the Olympics I am envious.  At least I can enjoy what I can not do.

Clown 10.2 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 10.2 - Round Robin Exchange
Thank goodness for the photo image in this piece.  It gives a lighter area contrast to the rest of the 6 x 6.   Oh, I think I am going to have to do more dendrites.  I know I keep saying it but I am getting closer to doing it.  Today is an all art day with the exception of setting up my Christmas present from Tim.  I have a new boxed LED television sitting on the floor in our bedroom.

Clown 11.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 11.1 - Round Robin Exchange
I could spend hours upon hours searching for ephemera.  I have more than I need already but I still like the search.  Searching online or searching in antique stores, that is just plain fun for me!  I suppose one could call me an ephemera hoarder.  However, I am organizing it and it is a lot easier now to find what I need from what I already have.

Clown 10.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 10.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Living in the middle ages would have been difficult and if that is when I had lived, I would not have minded being a court jester as long as I did not displease anyone in power.  Looking into the background at the dendrites makes me want to get out the paint, glass, and papers to create more of them.

Clown 9.2 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 9.2 - Round Robin Exchange
Today I worked on another 6 x 6.  I was done with the series but since I had to send off the twelfth one due to postal issues.....the piece disappearing into the great postal void.....I did not have one for myself.  It will be kind of interesting for me to compare it to all the others when it is done.  I imagine it will look like it was created twelve months later than the others in the series.  You will know in a few days.

I am blogging from the mall.  Tim is shopping and since I really dislike shopping I am sitting looking at emails, blogs, and people watching.  It is actually fun seeing people walk by.  I love to people watch.  Most of what I see going on is pretty normal shopping.  There was one couple having an argument.  I moved so I did not have to listen to it.

Clown 9.1 - Round Robin Exchange
I wasn't sure which 6 x 6 with a bear on it I would send to my art friend, Brian.  So I made several.  Here is another one.  I am really liking the backgrounds and will have to make more papers to for future projects.

Everything seems to work for me here.  I just noticed something in the purple background....looks like primitive animal drawings.  Or perhaps it is an inkblot test.

For some reason when I brought this piece up for publication today my first thought was Ouch!  Why?  The right side of the piece and the red in the costume might just make the piece a little garish.

I found the checkered deli paper online and love the effect that it makes with papers that I made or altered.  Works for me. :-)

Clown 7.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 7.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Nothing that I create has much of a plan.  I just start and it is all intuitive.  I did not plan which clown would go on which piece until all the backgrounds were finished.  Then I auditioned them on what I had created.  Auditioning is one of my favorite things to do in collage right after making backgrounds.

Clown 6.2 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 6.2 - Round Robin Exchange

Focal points.....odd numbers really does work.  This piece would look incomplete without the three main features.  Two would not have been enough.  Three seems to be optimal here.

Clown 6.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Clown 6.1 - Round Robin Exchange

Knowing that an art friend loves bears I had to add one to some of the collages in this series.  There is a balance in this collage that I really like.  Maybe it is the grid-ish-ness of the background.  Maybe it is the circles.  Maybe it is the placement of the images.  Perhaps it is all of the above! :-)  I do love the colors and maybe that is what ties it all together.

As I blog this series I study each piece and check out the techniques I used.  The blue lines were made with one of those bread closures dipped in paint.

Sometimes I prefer a background to contrast with the foreground.  It seems to work with both having the similar color palettes here.

The colors in this piece seem very lush to me.  Part of that is the result of using Stablio Woodies.  I love using those in my work.

Clown 4.1 - Round Robin Exchange
I am kind of surprised I even did a circus themed series.  As a kid, I went once and was not all that enthused.  In a way, the circus has had a comeback with Cirque du Soleil.  I have been a couple of times, once in Las Vegas and once in Seattle. O, in Vegas, was wonderful!
