Clamshell Box with Niche

Clamshell Box (cover)

Open Clamshell Box

Open Clamshell Box (flat)

I wanted a niche in the cover of a clamshell box.  So I spent today thinking about how to do that and executing it.  I love how it turned out.  I made two mistakes which no one will notice, but it is a prototype so no problem.  Totally fun to make! :-)

Encaustic Mono-print Backgrounds

Yesterday I spent the day in Port Townsend, WA in an encaustic open studio session.  I was able to create and create some more.  Below you will see several of the backgrounds I created.  The next step is to use them in collage.  They photograph a bit dark.  Time will tell what they will become.

January APCs - 10, 11, 12

January APCs - 10, 11, 12

These are the last of the series of APCs for January.  They might be the quickest and easiest ones I have ever done.  I wanted to challenge myself to make something that looked good but did not take forever to create.  Some of my APCs and ATCs have been more involved and taken a huge amount of time.  Basically there are only five to six elements in these......substrate, playing card; napkin; semi-circle; focal image; and Stablio woodies.  Oh yeah, teabags over the semi-circle.  Maybe they aren’t so simple! :-)

January APCs - 07, 08, 09

January APCs - 07, 08, 09

All of the APCs are in envelopes waiting for the list of recipients.  I love being done with a project before the deadline.  It clears the mind to send something off to another part of the world hopefully giving another artist a bit of art joy.  I have two more ATC projects to do and ideas are gelling.  I have a piece to start with a deadline of January 20.  I think that is the deadline.

Happy New Year to you! :-)

January APCs - 04, 05, 06

January APCs - 04, 05, 06

While working on the APCs I got to the point of is this enough?  I had not used the Stablio Woodies nor the transfer paper yet.  When I am not sure I usually scan what I have completed and then try out techniques on the scanned printout.   Putting the added techniques next to the originals really helped. I decided to go ahead with the Stablio Woodies and transfer paper.

You might be wondering why one of the images is smaller than the others.  Something happened in the scanning process.  Technology is like magic for me.  I might know a process but when something does not work like I thought it would then it is like magic.  Just go with it and don’t spend a lot of time worrying about it.  It just happens.  There are times when I really want something a specific way and spend loads of time on it.  Not this time.

January APC - 01, 02, 03

January APC - 01, 02, 03

My APCs for January are done and ready for mailing to their new destination as soon as I get my list of recipients.  I made twelve this time hoping that it will be enough.  If  not I have leftovers from previous months to send out.

I pretty much simplified this month using napkins, semi-circles, a focal image, and Stablio Woodies.

Spider Book No. 4 - 10 and 11

Spider Book No. 4 - 10

Spider Book No. 4 - 11
This is the last of the series.  I did publish one of them twice because there are really only ten in the series.   So I will have to look to see which is a duplicate.  No. 11 is on the cover of the book that houses these bird collages.  Today I worked on January APCs and finished twelve of them.  I usually make 15 but I miscounted again and so there are only twelve.  My math skills are really slipping.  Hmm!
