Just why would this woman be wearing a veil.  It leads me to cultural reasons.  It leads me to wondering about the history of wearing veils.  One knows about why women wear veils before getting married.  One knows about wearing veils when in mourning.  I have seen hats that have veils but the only purpose is fashion.  Just what is the purpose of this veil?

The background papers are a combination of found ephemera and papers I created and then worked on in iColorama.  The little girl is either afraid of rabbits or she has not seen it yet and will stop crying once she has.

 I am so into collaging using the seeded method.  Each spread is a surprise on how to begin and the end result always is surprising as well.

 Some of you might think I have seen this one previously and you have partially.  You saw the right hand side yesterday.  I had intended binding the book differently but this morning but I decided to use the Japanese binding known as Retchoso.  I am able to keep the spreads together instead of randomly which would have happened if I nested the pages.  Hence....a semi-repeat.  I promise I will make it up to you tomorrow or Friday.

 In this seeded journal I started with words or phrases cut from the newspaper.  I added colorful magazine or handmade papers randomly.  Both of these were added to a 18 x 24 sheet of watercolor paper.  The sheet was then cut into smaller equal sized papers.  I added more ephemera to complete the collage.  I like to call the process painting with papers.  All of the smaller sheets will be bound into a seeded journal. The binding process is the next step.

This page will be folded in half and will become the center page of my latest seed journal.  I will explain more about the seed journal as I share the pages.  I really like how this one turned out.

Today felt like fall.  It was cloudy, trying to rain but didn't.  It was cool and one had to wear fall clothing. Personally I am ready for October.

I received an ATC in a fabric/paper envelope a few months ago.  The ATC was sewn into the envelope.  On the paper side was my address and a bit of other things.....stamp, return address, etc.  I added this envelope to my seeded journal.  The post office added the white strip.  I also added the portrait.  It is a three way collaboration....Elsa, post office, and me.

I made a mistake when I did the stamping of the word 'bath'.  Drescher would have said cover it up with something else and/or then do it over again.  I thought about what I might put over the lettering but then I thought of keeping it just as is.  The jury is out.

 I am just loving the negative space in the collages for the seeded journal.  In preparing this collage for publication I noticed that not only is the cheetah yellow but so is the tie worn by the man.  I like the color relationship.

 There is a discount on the Drescher workshop through Carla Sonheim.  So I decided to sign up.  It will be interesting to see how these pieces that I have shown change.

In my Drescher journal I added part of a posted envelope adhering it in with staples.  I had a focal point on this page but I like the female bicyclist better.  One has to be able to give up when collaging.

 This is a page from the Drescher workshop that I did not attend.  Many of my friends did.  What I did instead is I watched the video that he has on YouTube  (1) Seeded Notebook with Henrik Drescher Online Class | Trailer - YouTube

The type of book that was created is called a Seeded Notebook.  One randomly adheres ephemera down on a piece of watercolor paper.  Then the paper is folded several times and you get the pages for the book.  One never really knows what will turn up on each page.  Once the book is sewn you can then start adding more ephemera.  The page above is incomplete.  I have only added three things....the grey flower; the stamped letters; and the French sentence.  Once the book is complete I will share it on this blog.  It is a fun, fun, fun process.

It just seems like this woman is out for a summer afternoon perhaps meeting friends or out with a special beau.  It was a gorgeous day here today and I was out riding my new e-bike.  Just a perfect day!

I spent a great deal of today looking for images.  I found Accordion Man on a vintage matchbox.  I had the background done some time ago and it all just came together rather quickly once I had my focal image.

I used Neo-color crayons to additional punch of red.  If you have not used Neo Colors give them a try.  They are water soluable.

 Sometimes in a collage there isn't a connection with the other elements.  Sometimes the viewer does not know the artist connection.  Sometimes the viewer makes up his or her own connection with the elements.  What is your story that makes the connection or does not make it?
