Sometimes I am unsure of whether or not to add just another piece of ephemera to a collage that I am working on.  Auditioning sometimes is the only way to go.  I have even made a photocopy of an in- progress collage and experimented to see just which way to go.  In this one, the stamp with the numeral 4 was the right piece to finish it off.  Without it something was missing.

For some time now I was focused on finding vintage photographs in a smaller size.  I recently found that I did not have many such photos and decided cropping was the way to go.  I love using a larger photo downsized.

Although there is a lot going on in this piece somehow it works for me.  I might describe it as busy with many disparate parts.  I had been thinking of one more item but I stopped.  For this series I did 24 backgrounds first.  Each substrate is on a heavy matte board. I created art on both sides of each substrate.

I am working on a new series.  I've gone from working with red to where the predominant color is orange.  I think I am 99% sure that No. 1 is finished.  I may do a slight bit more.  It has to rest before I attempt anything else.  I will tell you more about the series as I share each day.

Tin Can Journal

Last April and last week I taught a workshop on creating a journal in a can.  Although these particular cans were purchased online, Altoid cans could be used.  I love the feet but I do not know where to purchase them as they were given to me by one of my students.  I found the domino in a store on one of my adventures.  The actual journal is a meander format.  There is a second side to the journal but I did not get a chance to PhotoShop the images to share.

Cloth Journal 2

I know better than to say I will never make another something because inevitably I end up breaking that rule and producing yet another of the item.  This time it is a cloth journal.  This one folds out into several pocketed sections for postcards.  I have  some laundry pins attached for decoration.  Also my friend Irene Rafael gave me some very tiny safety pins that are quite unusual.  They are a bit camouflaged in the upper right along the grey fabric.  As I fill this journal I will find things to add to the tiny safety pins.  My first cloth journal is bursting and so this one had to be made.  I got the cloth at a recycle fair last fall.  I love using things that might have ended up in a landfill.
