Elephant 02 - Accordion Journal

Elephant 02 - Accordion Journal

For this series I worked on each piece separately and then when I had 14 finished I added them to an accordion structured journal.  The vintage photographs came from a sale on Ebay.  I got over 200 images.  Many of the images are of babies which I give to an art friend who likes using them.  I do not use very many children images unless I find just the right one.

Elephant 01

This new journal series called Elephant contains 14 works.  As you might imagine each piece has an elephant.  I found a huge supply of elephants on covers of matchbooks hence the series.  I am going to use this series as motivation for a class I am teaching next year.

Geisha - Cold Wax 9

Geisha - Cold Wax 9

Geisha is the last of the nine cold wax pieces I completed.  I have four more in the wings waiting for the next stage in the process.  It will be awhile as I am on another kick right now.  Also there are 73 blog postings waiting for publication.  I know, that is obsessive and prolific , but I was busy and that is how many I have scanned and lined up.  The writing is not done on those 73.  I do that each day but the hard part is done.  It takes a considerable amount of time to scan each piece, arrange it in Photoshop so that it is squared off and the correct size for the blog, and to upload for a new post.  So I am quite excited to have that done on so many.

Yesterday I planned on making more rust papers but that did not happen as I got into finding images for the next series I am doing which is 30 pieces and has a Japanese baseball theme.  I find that funny as I am not really into sports much.....I do like volleyball, gymnastics, the Olympics.....swimming in particular.  The images I found are vintage and amazing to my thinking.  I am inspired and  so I  just go with it.  The art leads me.

Woman With Drink, Poppy, and Bird - Cold Wax 8

Rust, isn't it wonderful?  I think today before it gets too hot I will make some more papers outside in the rustoreum!  That this the back deck on top of the glass table next to the bird bath and the water feature.  It is almost time for me to put all the rusty materials away.   Rain might be in our future soon.  We need it!

Same process.  I am finding I prefer the lighter backgrounds.  It is all about trial and error.

Such a stormy background!  This piece has a cold appearance.  It is not easy at first to see the hand near the top right.  My eye has to adjust as the poppy, the woman, and the background are so bold.

When I put the elements together I was not sure it would all work.  I just love the rabbit.  Who hasn't scared a bunny sometime in your life?
