Felix

Felix
This piece was the only one in the series with a woman.  I wish I had found more photographs of Native American women to compliment the series pieces.  I just did not find ones that worked.  The woman in this piece is Mrs. Charlie Track.  She is an Assiniboin and the photo was taken in 1898.

Ever

Ever

Each of the pieces in this series have several type fonts or sources for the background papers.  Sometimes I used bits of paper torn from books and other times I used magazine words.

Cover Before Striking

Cover Before Striking

Happy 4th of July!  In each of the pieces in this series I sanded the words to distress them.  I wanted to create a look that resembles billboards that have been neglected.  Those billboards use to be around everywhere it seems.  Now they are being replaced by electronic ones.

This man is a Tonkawa Native American and the photo of him was taken in 1898 and it was colorized some time later.

Change

Change

Hollow Horn Bear, a Sioux, is featured.   On each of the twelve images I used bird ephemera from the Egyptian tombs.  How more disparate is that?!

Beautiful

Beautiful

Chief White Swan was from the Yakima Nation in Eastern Washington.  I decided I wanted to have disparate images in this series.  In a sense the ephemera was chosen for a cultural clash, images that should not go together.

7 Up

7 Up
7 Up is the first in a series of twelve.  Each of the works in this series will be part of a book bound using the slip knot stitch.  This stitch allows each page to lay flat much like the Coptic stitch.  The backgrounds on each piece will be explained as we progress through the series.  I love the image of Iron White Man who was a Sioux tribesman and traveled with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show.

Felt Swatch Book - Ecodyeing

In the ecoprinting workshop that I took in Oregon we planned on making a swatch book to house the 34 colors that we created in class.  That did not get done as we were having too much fun with our coptic bound book that I showed previously.  I finished the swatch book today.
