April 2022 APCs - 02 and 03

The bead work on the cloth were already attached to a wire.  I just stitched them to the cloth and glued the cloth to the playing card.  These APCs came together very quickly and took an afternoon to finish.

April 2022 APC- 01

I am working on the April 2022 APCs.  Each one has stitching, cloth, a string of beads, and a photograph.

This is the final APC of this series.  Onto to new projects. :-)

APC March 2022 - 11

March has flown by and guess what?  I have to get busy on the APCs for April.  I have an idea to try out but I never really know how it will go until I start.  The idea will have to lead me.

APC March 2022 - 10

I do like the boldness of using letters in this type of APC.

APC March 2022 - 09

If I were to do this project again which I probably won’t since I like pushing myself to do new ideas, I would make sure that there was more color in the corner pieces.  I do like the bird especially though.

APC March 2022 - 07

Two things come to mind that I particularly like in this APC.  I like the balance of the blues in opposite corners and I like the bird’s head sticking out onto the border of the card.

APC March 2022 - 06

I really like the blue in this APC.  I wish there was more of it.

APC March 2022 - 05

You will have to look very carefully to find the image in the bottom right corner.  You might even have to enlarge it.

APC March 2022 - 04

I think that the adding of words is effective in this APC.  They are distinct whereas the images in the corners are not as defined.  One has to look at them longer to determine what they are.

APC March 2022 - 03

For some reason I feel like the ephemera pieces in the four corners are like little secrets being hidden by the Jack of Hearts.

APC March 2022 - 02

I just like the overall look of these artist playing cards now that the backgrounds have been removed and something new has replaced them.  For instance, the skull clown in the bottom right corner gives a different feel to the playing card.

APC March 2022 - 01

For this series of twelve I cut out the backgrounds of each playing card.  That was some task which took a long time.  Then I sat on the cards for weeks.  I did not know what I was going to do next.  Finally the deadline for sending the APCs was looming.  I have to add something to each corner.  That was it, add something. So each corner has a piece of small ephemera added on the backside of card.  On this one you will find a star, a sheep’s head, the number 7, and the letter ‘m’ which was stamped onto a piece of aged paper.

ATC March 2022 - 07 and 08

These are the last two of the March ATC series.  It was a fun activity rolling the dice to make decisions on what goes on a card from a list of possibilities.  I love random anyway. :-)

ATC March 2022 - 05 and 06

Yesterday a comment was made about conversation.  That got me to thinking about these two men who are now twins having a conversation, a conversation between two ATCs perhaps.

ATC March 2022 - 03 and 04

It was fun working with the same focal image yet making it different by flipping the image in Photoshop.

March ATCs 2022 - 01 and 02

The task for this month’s ATC for a local artist trading card group was to create a piece of art from a list of different prompts.  For instance one could make a list of ten techniques numbering each separate technique or prompt.  Then you could roll a dice and use those numbered techniques in  the work.  The one on the left used the following:

1. Gelli plate
2. Use a piece of ephemera that has a language on it
3. Use something old
4. Use some sort of paint
5. Use an empty teabag
6. Use a graphite pencil

The one on the right:

1.Gelli plate
2.  Numbers
3. Green ephemera
4. Curved line
5. Teabag
6. Paint
7.  Piece of language ephemera

Sight - 25

This is the last composition in this book.  I had wanted to do a video of the whole book but guess who entered this book and the one on touch into the NW Collage Society Spring Show without doing just that?Yup, me!  Not only did I not make the video but I did not scan each of the 25 compositions in the touch book which is the sister book to the sight book.  So I can not even show that book until after May 30 when I retrieve it from the show.  Never fear, I have works to publish but not in order of completion.

This piece leads us to the book on touch and will debut in June.

Sight - 24

One of my visitor to my blog, Becky, recommended that I look at a YouTube video on image transfers that includes using a first layer of Stazon ink.  The link is:  https://youtu.be/TE1nAbRYq74.   I tried the process and it works well.  Thanks Becky. :-)

Sight - 23

My favorite parts of this piece is the pop of red and the striped lines in blue and the ones in black.  It makes for interest.

Sight - 22

The French word TABLEAUX is another one of those cases where the transfer did not work but I like how the paint adhered to the word and so I used it here.

Sight - 21

During the text transfer process which is not an exact science some text transfers and some does not.  It all depends on the glossiness of the magazine text and the amount of paint applied to the gelli plate.  Too much definitely does not work, too little and no result either.  Sometimes text comes out like above coloring the piece of text one is trying to transfer.  Text like this one is a failure in the transfer process but I rather liked it anyway and decided to use it in this piece.

Sight - 19

No eyes in this one but you know they are there.  I love it when my brain wants to complete an image.

Sight - 18

For me just having the one eye makes an expressive statement.  I want to know more about the person with this eye.  I want to complete the portrait in my mind’s eye.  Just who is this guy?

Sight - 17

A technique that is so simple but effective is just cutting a circle out of a colored tissue paper and adhering it to the composition.  I love the overlap onto another piece of ephemera as well.

Sight - 16

I like how this piece turned out like it is in quadrants.

Sight - 15

Sometimes one feels that a particular piece just comes together in a special way.  That is how I feel about this collage.  I like how the transfer looks with the blue and white ephemera on the left.  I like how the eye is centered and I usually do not center focal points.  The graphite pencil words “train your sight on’ placement works well.  I also like that there is black on the right to define the face.

This is what the box and the rest of the 3D sculpture looks like….

Sight - 14

I delivered this book and the one coming up next which is on touch to The Lodge Hotel gallery for the NW Collage Society Spring Show yesterday.  I will try and upload a photo of the box and all tomorrow.  It looks good in the display case.
