Maternal Grandmother

Maternal Grandmother
I do not remember my maternal grandmother.  I only have a few photos.  However, she is my oldest memory.  Now that must sound odd to you.  What I remember is that when I was three she died in Portland, Oregon.  My mother and her sister had the responsibility of taking her body on the train for burial in Iowa.  Our train left Seattle and my aunt's train left Portland.  The two trains met in eastern Washington.  My memory is of my mother telling me to watch for my grandmother's casket in the baggage car.  We were walking along the train and there it was right through the open door.  Isn't that something for a three year old to experience!

Love this piece. Interesting memory, too. Did it frighten you in any way about death? Have a great weekend. Hugs.

How amazing. Do you think you realised at 3y there was a dead body inside the coffin? As you didn't know her, perhaps you didn't know the function of the box you were instructed to look for.

I think it is really great that your mother did not try to hide death from you as so many parents (mine) do/did. It does no good. Lovely work as usual.
