I Just Felt Like Doing ATCs - 05

I absolutely do not remember where I got the vintage tourist souvenir images.  Was I gifted them?  Did I buy them in an antique store.  I just do not know. However, they are becoming quite useful in a series of ATCs.

I Just Felt Like Doing ATCs - 04

I like the randomness of putting together from the box of available ephemera.

I Just Felt Like Doing ATCs - 02

I had no idea where I was going with the hanging fish.  I went with what you see.

I Just Felt Like Doing ATCs - 01

I have been in a postcard phase and now I am in an ATC phase.  I found some fun travel scenes and thought why not use them.  So I made four ATCs yesterday out of my stash of ephemera.

Another Postcard - 10

In no time at all this postcard came together.  It was a lesson in giving up and covering up.  The black and white stripes went all the way to the bottom of the card and the red ovals all the way to the left of the card.  I love it when something unplanned works out.

Another Postcard - 09

I think of Carole Channing when I see this postcard.  I saw her on Broadway.  She was one dramatic actress. RIP!

Another Postcard - 08

The background for this postcard was created last fall during the prompt game activity that we had in the NW Collage Society.  Finally got around to finishing it.

Another Postcard - 07

Creating from a box of “scrap” ephemera is a challenge.  It takes me much longer usually to put the ephemera together in a meaningful way.  I wanted some writing on this postcard but finding something appropriate from the scrap box was not easy.  Perseverance!

Another Postcard - 06

I found some Tibetan prayer flags in one of my stash boxes.  So I have been weathering the flags.  Oh, the ocean breezes do a fantastic job of making papers look old….weather beaten.  I was afraid the winds would tear the flags so I brought them in to use in a collage.  That is what you see in the background.

Another Postcard - 05

I guess while going through the materials I have I should start culling what I will never use.  I do turn up my nose at that thought though.

Another Postcard - 04

I do not have as many focal ephemera pieces down at the ocean.  So I am forced to get creative with what I have.  Time to do a search for more vintage photos.

Another Postcard - 03

When turned to stone one does not have to worry about any health issues! LOL

Another Postcard - 02

Don’t you just love to see images of people in love.  Can you imagine the life these two must have had.  Love radiates from their expressions and stance. :-)

Another Postcard 01

Last fall I was playing the prompt game with members of the NW Collage Society and I created several backgrounds.  I never added finishing touches to the backgrounds until this week.

I do like the Steam Punk look even if I do not know how it came to be a movement.  I have some research to do.

Monday, May 15, 2023

Yesterday I realized I was out of anything to post.  So this afternoon I created a few postcards with a Steam Punk theme.

Steam Punk Postcard No. 1

I must admit I did not know much about Steam Punk only just a few years ago.  I am still not an expert but I recognize it now.

World Collage Day

Our Exquisite Corpse was selected to be on the World Collage Day poster for the show in Portland this weekend.  Yeah, Craig, Elsa, and Robert. :-)

Exquisite Corpse

I was asked to participate in creating a life size Exquisite Corpse with three other artists, Elsa Bouman, Craig van den Bosch and Robert Stockton.  Robert did the head.  I did the the upper body.  Craig created the lower body, and Elsa the feet.

Each section was taped with a piece of paper covering what each artist created so that we did not know what the others had done until the reveal.  The finished piece has been mailed to Portland and will be in an art show celebrating World Collage Day Saturday.

I am renting a condo right on the beach in Ocean Shores, Washington for the summer.  After daily beach walking and combing I now have a driftwood tree.  The plan is to move it to the p-patch as soon as I take off the cloche in about three weeks.  Red scarlet runner beans will grow up the driftwood tree.  I will share another photo after the move.  Here is a photo of the raised bed that I am tending for the summer at the p-patch……the future home of the driftwood tree.

Textured Collage - 06

These ladies are probably no longer alive but in a photograph which is a piece of art they live on.

Textured Collage - 05

Even a piece of mail that the sender had no idea would appear in a collage can be part of a piece of art.

Textured Collage - 04

Ephemera is everywhere.  The world is an ephemera paradise.  In this case the red is part of the sheath that was over a chopstick.

Textured Collage - 03

I am thrilled when a piece of ephemera is transparent.  In this case, it is allowing part of the photograph to show through from behind.

Textured Collage - 02

I love it when it is OK to touch a piece of art and all the pieces in this series are definitely touchable.

Texture Collage Series - Cover and 01

I decided while at the beach to create a journal out recycled materials.   I found ephemera that washed up and I used materials that I had around me that gained a new life as a piece of art.

Entry into the Puget Sound Book Arts Show - Summer 2023

This piece was recently selected to be in the Puget Sound Book Arts summer show that opens in early June at the University of Puget Sound.  Books in this show will then travel to Evergreen College in Olympia.  There are ten ATC (artist trading card) sized books in the collaged box.

Touch of Red - 06

This is the last one in this series.  I best get busy and create some more.

Touch of Red - 04

All the fabric collaged in this series were found at Zero Landfill which is held once a year in October.  All of the materials at Zero Landfill are free.  The idea is to keep them out of landfills and to use them in ways not necessarily originally thought of.
