Mini-Journal No. 5 - 02

Mini-Journal No. 5 - 02

As I mentioned previously I found some West African images that are used to advertise haircutting establishments.  They have captured my attention I think because of their folksiness but also that they serve a purpose.  In our world that has been so fast we often do not take the time to stop and smell the flowers.  With the virus among us we are forced to look at things differently.  Perhaps we could say that we have been forced to do things in ways we would never have before.  Take time to smell the roses.

Beautiful John, I love that we can see that you had fun with the process.

I so frequently seem at first glance to relate most strongly to the color in your work and this piece is no exception. The vibrant colors in the background are a wonderful “foil” for the subdued, earthy tones of the figure. As I look at this piece I’m imagining it as an 8 foot by 12 foot painting hanging at MoMA in NYC.

i am going to echo robert’s excellent imagery for this piece! it’s wonderful and would be a sensation at 8x12 at moma...now if only we could go there!

Yes, Julia, I was in New York City in September, 2018 and desperately miss the vibrancy, and creative inspiration I always feel when I’m there!

Hi John I looked at today's post and then back tracked as I had missed a few- these are wonderful- the color figures and pattern. You are having fun.
