| Crow Trio |
I started with paint and crackle paint. Then I went to some shiny transparent cloth that came in a box of supplies ordered online. I tried out a technique using an oiler boiler that Jane Davies demonstrated on her blog. I stenciled gesso "flowers" and then painted them. I hated the painted flowers so I glazed the whole background and solved the "hate" problem. Finally I added the crows. These crows obviously have a mission. I love the way they are either bent forward heading toward something or watching something very intensely.

I find I cannot use stencils either. This piece is divine.I am finding that I am really attracted to journals done by men. They just seem to really get to the point without all the who-hah and fanfare? Am I making sense?
Thanks Roberta. Your comment is one to ponder. All the journaling classes that I have taken have been taught by women with the exception of Seth Apter's classes. So I will start looking to see if I can see what you are suggesting concerning the who-hah. If you have an example that we could discuss I would enjoy that. Thanks for stopping by.
I think I am just tired of always seeing the faces and the flowers and the empty cliches. The male journals are not like that.

Stunning color way in this piece. The crows are the crowning addition. I have a flock that perch in the trees in front of my house during late afternoons. They yammer and make a big mess. Wish I could understand their language, I'd join in. When was the last time you yammered louder and louder over the next yammerer?
I love how you changed the flowers in the background into a plus. I love the crows. It is almost like they are all point or looking in the same direction off the page. Makes you wonder what they are looking at? Wonderful John!
A very strong and effective painting, the black lines of the background and the forward movement of the crows makes it a little unsettling. Like Roberta I am always interested in blog art by males, which have a different strength.
You really caught the intent crows so often exhibit! They do know how to focus and the birds in this piece show that very well.
