Using actual letters or writings that someone wrote years ago is something that I do but not without thinking about the person who did the writing. In this case the writing is about a vacation in Idaho. The writer would never have guessed that her writing would later be included in an art journal. I wonder what she would think of that? Does it breach privacy? After all it was only meant for the intended receiver.

Such visual richness in this spread, John! To answer your question, I think that the letter writer would probably be both stunned and pleased to be a part of an art journal. Since the letters you are using are quite old, and the chance unlikely that anyone connected to that individual will ever see it, I think that the privacy question is moot. I did look up Craters of the Moon National Monument, though. It’s in southeastern Idaho, and as the letter writer says, is a very desolate wasteland.
I agree with Robert Stockton, she would be pleased.
