Palm Reader

Palm Reader
This is my second assignment for the Juliana Coles Book of the Night class.  I tried so many things in this piece.  I kind of prefer the pages as separates rather than a two page spread.  The photo of the fortune teller and the client and my Photoshopped portrait are two things I really like about the piece.  The heart above my head looks like a hat to me.  I don't think it does so much in the journal.  The Signo pens did not work too well as they diluted with the addition of matte varnish.  The white Sharpie worked so much better.  I like the texture that the black masking tape provided.

I love it, despite the misgivings you have about it. The colors really hang together well, so it definitely feels of a piece to me. The raven, of course, rocks. After not originally liking the Sharpie paint pens that much, I purchased them again because they're one of the few pens at a reasonable price that truly are waterproof (the other two I've found are Pentel PenTouch and IdentiPen, although the latter is only available in black. And nothing beats that Sharpie white.

Was the Sharpie the poster paint Sharpie or some other kind? They are really interesting pages. I hope you'll bring them to our next meeting so I can see the for real. Love the colors and the crow, especially.

I really like the RH side and the heart looks like some evil form of lily and totally ok to me! As a 2-page spread, perhaps it would tie together better if a film of the blue or the heart colour extended across the pale figures, the hand and the white bit collaged at the top?? Great finds for the ephemera though.

ooo, juliana has gotten to you. i like these. all those mysterious layers and the heart on the head. i think the thing about juliana's pages is the personal meaning, not so much whether it reads well to anyone else. at least that's what she used to say. we were to keep our pages private. looks like she's changed that. are you enjoying the workshop?
