Over a year ago I did a study making collages with a different number of elements for each.  I found I liked including three to five elements the best.  I like the simplicity.

This is one my favorites of all the pieces I created last week at the Melinda Tidwell workshop on Whidbey Island.  I started by adhering many pieces of ephemera with a variety of writings.  Then I added the dark pieces and finally, with Melinda's encouragement, I added the yellow to bring back some warmth.  Melinda suggested that I push back some of the area around the faces with titanium buff.  It worked.  Thanks Melinda.

Well over a year ago I was involved with a few people in a collaborative postcard exchange.  I misplaced the beginnings of this postcard but recently found it.  The blue marks in the background were my first additions to this card.  Wendy Lee Lynds added the shells.  Finally I added the remaining ephemera.  Soon I will mail this card back to Wendy.  I called it Confusion because of all the disparate ephemera.

I am home from Whidbey Island the Melinda Tidwell workshop.  OMG!  It was so much fun!  I made 18 new pieces and will start showing what I accomplished over the five days.  Some I like better than others and maybe even some are not quite finished.  I will show the warts and my favorites.

When you compare the work I have been doing with the work I am doing in the Melinda Tidwell class you might be quite surprised.  I was talking about the difference with one of the other students and she said do not give up on your present style.  She likes the work I am doing in the class but she also likes my work that I have been posting.

I especially like how this piece turned out because although it might be considered busy, I like the fact that the longer you look at it the more things you discover.  Many of the background papers I am using lately are from 19th C. France papers found on or in books.  I also like the pop of red which draws you deeper into the piece.

Maybe this piece should have been called scaredy cat.  Rename it if you like.  Spending five days on Whidbey Island with Melinda Tidwell at the Pacific NW Art School.  I am in seventh heaven.  I show what I created next week after I get home. :-). Happy camper here!
